GOVERNMENT’S public health system needs to introduce a holistic cancer management and care programme to improve access to equitable and quality healthcare solutions, health experts have said.

The experts called for special training and programmes for health care workers as well as dissemination of more information to the public about the disease.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death globally, with its burden continuing to grow and putting a physical, emotional and financial strain on individuals, families and health systems.

Veteran oncologist Dr Anna Nyakabau said cancer care programmes will equip caregivers, health workers and patients with knowledge about the disease, thereby reducing the suffering and pain while improving the quality of their lives.

She added that it was also crucial for Government to avail funds for cancer care and control programmes in order to make prevention and treatment of the disease more effective.
