WHAT started as a merry beer-drinking spree between a Danagmvura couple turned nasty after the wife brutally assaulted her husband.
Liberty Merika (55) fell out with his wife, Diana Kamoyo (37) after she turned a disagreement over which music to play on the radio into a physical confrontation.
Kamoyo appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Prisca Manhibi facing physical abuse charges.
She pleaded guilty, and was fined $8 000.
Prosecuting, Ms Tafadzwa Chiwanza said on the night of September 30, the couple was drinking beer when Merika asked Kamoyo to change the song she was playing on the radio as she was repeatedly selecting her choice of music.
Kamoyo refused to take the request.
Disappointed, Merika switched his phone’s Bluetooth on, and selected a song to play.
“This did not go down well with Kamoyo, who snatched Merika’s phone and smashed it on the ground. In retaliation, Merika also took Kamoyo’s phone and threw it away. Kamoyo then latched onto her husband, and started pummelling him,” said Ms Chiwanza.
She hit him with a stone, and he sustained a swollen head, swollen right cheek, swollen left eye, and bled from the mouth.
