THE successful setting up of the Zanu PF War Veterans League structures is expected to rejuvenate the party and ensure resounding victory during the 2023 harmonised elections.

The development saw the War Veterans League becoming part of Zanu PF’s structures for the first time since 1980.

All along, the ruling party had three wings, namely the Main Wing, the Youth League and the Women’s League.
The party has 426 party district structures from its eight administrative districts in Manicaland.

Over the weekend, Zanu PF then established 320 War Veterans League districts that are ready to directly inculcate and cross-pollinate a winning mentality within the revolutionary party’s Manicaland supporters.

The district elections laid a solid foundation for the provincial elections that are scheduled for this weekend.

The provincial elections will then culminate in a War Veterans National Conference on November 27th.

The provincial elections are expected to fill up 40 posts in the War Veterans’ League structures. The electoral college consists of all vetted war veterans.

The liberation fighters have been encouraged to use their positions to mobilise support for the party and ensure a landslide victory for President Mnangagwa come 2023.

Zanu PF Manicaland provincial chairman, Cde Mike Madiro commended the war veterans for conducting their elections peacefully.

“This country was liberated by disciplined forces in ZIPRA and ZANLA and the discipline exhibited by the war veterans during their elections was commendable. They conducted their elections in a peaceful and disciplined manner. The provincial executive will be established in the next few days,” said Cde Madiro.

“The league will reboot the party and strengthen the prospects for 2023 harmonised elections. They will be a vital cog in our machinery. These are cadres who do not need to be mobilised before they mobilise others. These are cadres with a clear conscience and ideological clarity, which are important aspects to oil the party machinery.

“The war veterans who were actually the roots of the party from the liberation struggle are no longer going to be by-standers anymore, but are actually going to be direct players in securing a resounding victory for the ruling party and its President. We are excited by their impending direct participation in the formulation of policies and strategies, as well as their implementation,” said Cde Madiro.

He said the district structures were established in districts with war veterans.

This explains why only 320 structures were established in the party’s 426 district structures.

Among the war veterans that made it into the War Veterans League structures are Cdes Nation Madongorere, Alice Mutindori, Retired Major Jairos Mapungwana and Retired Major Eners Jinjika.
