A 22-YEAR-OLD Mutare man was arrested for stealing 15 solar panels and three lithium solar batteries at a school and two health centres in Mutare.
The solar panels were valued at ZWL1 million while the lithium batteries have a value of US$4 000.
Shingirai Makosi of Palmerstone suburb, Mutare, allegedly teamed up with Amidu Mukwamba, Takura Muputa and Peter Chivase to commit the offences.
Mukwamba, Muputa and Chivase are still at large.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Norbert Muzondo confirmed Makosi’s arrest.
“On May 11, detectives received information that Makosi was selling solar panels and lithium solar batteries. The detectives reacted to the information and waylaid Makosi, thereby leading to his arrest.
“Makosi was interviewed and revealed that he and his accomplices Amidu Mukwamba, Takura Muputa and Peter Chivase had stolen nine 335 watts solar panels at Gombakomba Secondary School in Mutare District.
“The accused led the detectives to the scene and made some indications. He also led the detectives to Munyarari Clinic where six 335 watts solar panels were stolen sometime in February.
“Makosi also led the detectives to Sherukuru Rural Health Centre, also in Mutasa District, where his gang allegedly stole three lithium solar batteries.
“Mukwamba, Muputa and Chivase are still at large. Makosi revealed that six outstanding solar panels stolen from Gombakomba are with one of the accused persons who is still at large,” said Inspector Muzondo.
He appealed to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of the three suspects to contact their nearest police station.
