Sisters clash over blankets

EVERY parent wants their kids to get along, to support and love one another. Sadly, the opposite is happening between two Penhalonga sisters.

The two siblings do not see eye-to-eye and brawls have become the order of the day.

Fed-up with her young sister Melissa Sandure, Ruth Sandure approached the Mutare Civil Court applying for an order to bar the former from visiting her place of residence, notwithstanding the fact that the two live a stone’s throw away from each other.

Ruth told the presiding magistrate, Ms Notebulgar Muchineripi, that as an elder sister, she provided everything for Melissa as they grew up.

She said all hell broke after Melissa got married.

“My children and I went through the whole winter season with a single blanket after Melissa had taken away all my blankets. I beg for the court’s intervention so that she brings back my blankets. I cannot afford to buy new ones,” explained Ruth.

She went on to reveal that Melissa has assaulted her family on countless occasions.

“I do not want to see her at my house. She has caused me so much heartache. She acts like she is not my biological sister due to a man who can leave her tomorrow. Melissa should just stay with her husband and forget that I exist,” said the distraught woman.

In response, Melissa said Ruth burnt her national identity document as well as her child’s birth card.

“We fought, it’s not like l attacked her. The blankets she is talking about are mine. I bought them during my stay with her. When I moved out, I simply took all my belongings. I am shocked that she thought I would leave my blankets behind,” said Melissa, adding that she wouldn’t mind being barred from visiting her sister.

A protection order was granted in Ruth’s favour. Ms Muchineripi ordered Melissa to stop assaulting, harassing, and breaching her sister’s peace.
