A 32-year-old Rusape man has been hauled before the magistrates court facing charges of illegally dealing in dangerous drugs.

Tinashe Musa was arrested by detectives from the Drugs and Narcotics after being found with 18 sachets of crystal meth at his base in Vengere.

Crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as mutoriro, is a highly toxic and dangerous drug.

It is derived from methamphetamine, which is prohibited under the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Musa appeared before Rusape magistrate Mr Gift Manyika and was remanded out of custody to January 25 for trial.

Prosecutor Mrs Melissa Saide told the court that detectives received information that Musa was dealing in dangerous drugs at the carpenters’ complex in Vengere.

They ambushed and found him with the 18 sachets of crystal meth.

“On December 22, 2021 at around 1pm, detectives who were on patrol in Vengere received information to the effect that the accused person was dealing in dangerous drugs at the carpenters’ complex in Vengere. The detectives approached him in his room and identified themselves as police officers.

“They searched the whole room and a small bag belonging to the accused. The detectives found one sachet of crystal meth from the small bag and 17 small sachets from a small box that was placed on the window seal.

“The accused is a well known drug dealer who has appeared before the courts more than once,” said Mrs Saide.
