Robber steals $1000 airtime

A MUTASA robber who raided a bar at Muchena business centre and escaped with airtime recharge cards worth $1 000 and a swipe machine among his loot has been convicted by a Mutare court.

Tawanda Chidawanyika, of Chidawanyika village in Mutasa was this week convicted by Magistrate Perseverance Makala on his own plea of guilty to the unlawful entry charges he was facing.

Chidawanyika admitted breaking into the bar during the night and stealing airtime recharge cards worth $1000, $122 cash and a swipe machine.

He confessed using the stolen cash to buy clothes for his unborn baby.

Property stolen was worth $1 140 and only valued at $220 was recovered.

He was remanded to a later date for sentence.

Meanwhile, a homeless Mutare man who attacked a traveller in broad daylight and robbed him of his electrical gadgets before leaving his unconscious body lying in a pool of blood was hauled before the courts.

Anesu Sengasenga (23) pleaded guilty to one count of robbery as defined in Section 126 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.

He admitted that together with two accomplices, who are still at large, attacked Steven Mwauraisa and vanished with gadgets worth US$1000.

Sengasenga however, denied the second robbery charge in which he allegedly attacked Lovemore Makiwa at the same spot and robbed him a cell-phone and $150.

Mutare magistrate Ms Perseverance Makala is presiding over the matter.

Mr Fletcher Karombe is prosecuting.

Sengasenga and gang attacked                   Mwauraisa who was travelling from Chikanga to Sakubva using stones and sticks.

They left him lying in a pool of blood after snatching his EOC Canon 1200D camera and his Nokia cell phone.

Sengasenga was arrested on March 12 and led detectives to the recovery of   Mwauraisa’s camera.

Sengasenga was remanded in custody pending sentence and trial.
