Government is working on improving the state of public health facilities in Manicaland and a restructuring programme that will see decentralising of specialist services to marginalised areas, Vice President and Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Constantino Chiwenga has said.
Addressing guests during a tour of Ngangu Rural Hospital in Chimanimani, Dr Chiwenga said Government is restructuring the health sector with the aim to decentralize provision of specialist health care services.
Dr Chiwenga bemoaned the absence of a district hospital in Chimanimani saying more needs to be done to improve health facilities in Manicaland.
“It is clear that we do not have proper health care facilities here in Manicaland. Even the Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital is just a provincial hospital by its name but its standards do not match that status.
“This is the reason we as Government are now embarking on a restructuring programme that will see us decentralising specialist services to marginalised areas. We are geared to transform the health care sector to ensure its robust and accessible,” he said.
