Rusape physiotherapist Clemence Muhle who shocked the nation last week when he walked away with a record three vehicles in the OK Grand Challenge draw, has mastered a special way of winning competitions and promotions which has seen him bagging prizes worth over $200 000 dollars in four years.

Muhle (40) told The Weekender this week that he uses mathematics to win the competitions especially the probability rule. He also revealed that his brother Simbarashe, who is a pastor at End Time Message church, told him a day before the draw that he would win three cars including the main prize, a Nissan 4 X 4 Navara.

He spent over $25 000 buying the 41 products that were on promotion and amassed a massive 10 419 coupons a figure he said probably rose to 12 000 because he ended up not recording the coupons. To make sure that each coupon was filled he engaged someone to fill them, capturing every detail correctly and writing clearly.

To most people Muhle’s win was incredible but to those based in Rusape, this was an ordinary win as they are now accustomed to his winning ways in promotions. He has monopolised competitions and promotions. The soft spoken Muhle did it last year when he won $45 000 cash in the TM Pick and Pay promotion and the management had to withhold his prize for three weeks and instituted a forensic audit to probe his win but the audit team cleared him.

When The Manica Post pressed Muhle to divulge his ‘maths and probability’ for the benefit of the nation, at first he flatly refused to talk and later said he would only reveal his secret in 2019 after winning all the cars on offer. The majority of the people are however, speculating that the affable man who hails from Chipinge could be using juju to scoop the prizes.

He later gave in and explained that he did not enter promotions for the sake of it or trying his luck but did so with the intention of grabbing the prizes on offer.

“Mmmmm yaaah if I tell you my secret then it means my plan to win all the cars in 2019 will be in jeopardy since many people will copy me. Any way, you are insisting let me tell you. I first study the competition rules and products on promotions. So when I go into a supermarket I will make sure that I only buy what is on promotion and get my coupons. Most competitions if not all say ‘the more you buy the more chances of winning’ so I buy more and more. Last year I participated in OK Grand Challenge but did not win anything but I learnt vital lessons from that draw and came home to prepare for this year’s.

“This year I bought my groceries at OK Rusape, Marondera and mostly Mbare. At OK Mbare, the staff is very friendly and they treated me very well as a big customer. Each time I went there for shopping they availed staff to load my groceries and opened a till dedicated to me. Sometimes it took four hours to serve me and they never showed that they are bored with me as was the case with some outlets. They would close their branch around 11pm serving me because I would have left Rusape around 4pm to go to Mbare to do my shopping.

“Mind you I was only buying what was on promotion and I would know how many coupons I would get. I would then drive back to Rusape and arrive around 2am and in the morning, I would give someone the coupons to fill correctly and clearly. The coupons were so voluminous. The last time I checked them they were 10 419 but I think by end of the promotion they rose to around 12 000.

“I was very confident that I was going to win more than one vehicle because I knew that my coupons would dominate the draw drums. In the Pepsi draw drum I had 582, Thornville Karinga I had 1 726 and Arenel biscuits I had 215 and that is where I won the cars. In the Navara category I had 1 216 coupons but I did not win.

“For example if a box has 10 coupons and 7 belong to one person, who has the highest and realistic chance of winning? That is my secret. Remember the more you play the more chances of winning,’’ he explained.

Muhle’s journey into ‘career gambling’ begun in 2014 when he participated in the Econet SMS and Win promotion where he won five Huawei cellphones. He never looked back when he tasted the sweetness of winning competitions.

“I won five Huawei cellphones but the biggest reward was a tablet. I had sent so many SMS and amassed so many points that earned those prizes. This is the time I took these competitions very seriously.

In 2015 when Metro Peech opened its branch in Rusape, Muhle who has grocery shops in and around the town, participated in the promotional draw and a 1.5 tonne truck was at stake but he did not win it.

He said that there were very few coupons in the draw drum and he wondered if he had placed many coupons he would have easily won the truck. He learnt a lesson from that.
The following year, Metro Peech held a Buy Zimbabwe promotion and Muhle participated with several coupons and won several times but the competitions only allowed two prizes per person and he walked away with $1 000 and $600. He also participated in the Metro Peech Winter Wheels and Deals promotion where a Honda Fit was on offer but failed to win.

In the 2016 Metro Peech Super Trader promotion, a 1.5 tonne truck was on offer and Muhle got it right this time. That is when he started applying mathematics.

“I studied the promotional flier very well and got to know what was on promotion and what was not. I only bought what was on promotion and I won my first truck. The draw drum had about 1 500 coupons and mine alone were 1 200 so mathematically it was 0,8 chance probability of winning. For every ten picks I had 8 chances of winning. Simple arithmetic at play. I also won a lot of cash and electrical gadgets. My wife fainted at the draw and Minister Patrick Chinamasa who was the guest of honour jokingly said my winning will kill my wife,’’ said Muhle.

In 2017, Muhle participated in the TM Pick and Pay promotion where he bought groceries in five outlets in Manicaland and won a mouth watering $45 000 cash prize which shocked the company’s management prompting them to withhold the prize and institute a forensic audit.
“Pick and Pay in 2017 a had promotion in which they were giving cash per branch and the highest was $10 000 second $5 000 and other consolation prizes in form of electrical gadgets. I bought groceries on promotion in four outlets in Mutare and one in Rusape. I also used my wife’s name on some coupons to increase the chances of winning and we won jointly $45 000 in cash. This shocked the TM Pick and Pay management and draw boxes were taken to Harare for investigation and audit. I did not get my prize on the day but others were given on the draw day. After three weeks, they confirmed my prize saying that there was nothing amiss with my win,’’ said Muhle, who operates a private physiotherapy clinic in Rusape.

In that year, armed with $45 000 ‘war chest’ he targeted Metro Peech Super Trador and extended his ‘gambling’ territory to three Metro Peech branches that is Rusape, Mutare and Murehwa as it was now interesting for him to win and it bore resounding fruits, bagging two trucks, one in Mutare and the other in Murehwa.

Said Muhle: “The person who won the Rusape truck is the one who had asked me for tips on how to do it properly. You can check with him.’’

Muhle also won several times at Pan Mart, a leading independent supermarket in Rusape. However, he said, management after realising that he was likely to scoop everything on offer, would constantly change the rules in the middle of a draw to satisfy everyone who participated. Due to this he missed winning a car twice.

Muhle said since 2015, the value of the things he won in competitions and promotions has exceeded $200 000 and has no intention of slowing down. He also said he is not worried by wild claims of juju and said by winning three cars at OK, it had helped to cool down juju claims in the town. He, however, refused to divulge whether he donates part of what he wins to charity as is done by most competition winners.

“What I have won since I started participated in these competitions is now over $200 000. My winning has totally nothing to do with juju. I am a Christian since birth. Whether I donate to charity or not is not for public consumption. What the left hand does, the right must not know. It is a matter between me and God,’’ said Muhle.
