NYAMAURU High School is looking to continue with their dominance in the  girls Under-15 Copa Coca Cola soccer tournament here in Kadoma.

Kadoma will host the 2019 finals where a total of 12 boys and 12 girls’ teams will battle it out for top honours. The tournament will kick off today (Friday) till Saturday.

Jameson High School will host the girls, while Rimuka 2 High School will host the boys.

Nyamauru qualify as the defending champions after dismissing Mpopoma 2-1 in Zvishavane last year.

Nyamauru became the first ever girls team from Manicaland to lift the prestigious trophy.

Nyamauru coach Albert Mutasa said they were geared up for the tournament and ready to defend their title.

“We are geared up for the tournament. Our target is to bring the trophy back home like what we did last year. We have been working very hard in the field and our players are determined. We have Mwenezi in our group and we hope we will post good results.

“It is a strong side but we will do all that we can to get good results. Our players are in good shape and our captain Lucia Chisvo is recovering well from a knee injury and she will feature in today’s matches. We also expect vetting to be done fairly and professionally,” he said.

Nyamauru headmaster Vitalis Chirenje is also confident that his girls will continue with their dominance.

“The girls have been working very hard and we hope to come up victorious. We have talented players and we hope results will come out,” he said.

In their journey to the finals, Nyamauru topped group A after dismissing Mutsvangwa 1-0 and Makope with the same margin. They went on to discard Mamunyadza 3-2 in the quarter finals. In the semi finals they dismissed Vengere 1-0 to book a place in the final with Gotora. They drew 1-1 and Nyamauru won 3-2 on penalties.

Buhera district provides Manicaland’s two other representatives at this year’s finals with Gotora Secondary School in the girls’ category and Chapwanya Secondary School in the boys’ category.
