FC PLATINUM’S Stanley Ngala, after scoring on his debut at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday, says he is honoured to play for the champions and is raring to go.

Ngala, who is on loan to FC Platinum from Manica Diamonds, was given a first start by new coach  Hendrik Pieter de Jong when FC Platinum played Al Ahly of Egypt  in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League  match played at  Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday.

He stole the limelight by scoring a beauty of a goal which gave FC Platinum the lead in a match that the platinum miners eventually drew 1-1.

Ngala thrust the platinum miners into lead in the 20th minute.

“I am grateful for the chance presented to me to play for such a big club. I feel so happy about my move to FC Platinum. They are the champions and that alone means a lot to me.

“It feels great to be given a chance as a new player to play a game of that magnitude. I appreciate the trust that the coach has shown me,” he said.

Ngala established himself as a soccer player while doing Grade 3 at Chedonje Primary School in Kadoma.

He continued with the game at Rimuka High School before being transferred to Induna Secondary School where he finished his Ordinary Levels.

He said he was inspired by his late father, Jonathan Ngala.

“I was greatly inspired by my late father. He was a goalkeeper for Black Boot FC in Bulawayo.

He started top-flight football at Bulawayo Chiefs in 2016 before moving to Mochudi Centre Chiefs of Botswana.

In 2017, Ngala was struck by an injury that left him grounded for the whole year.

“In 2017, I suffered a fractured leg and I did not play that whole year. In 2018 I then joined Tsholotsho FC for six months before moving to Bulawayo Chiefs mid-season. I then joined Manica Diamonds in 2019.

Ngala’s dream is to play for Liverpool.

“It is my dream to play in Europe. My dream team is Liverpool. I want to be the next Agent Sawu, Peter Ndlovu, Benjani Mwaruwaru of my generation. My target this season is to help my club defend the league title. I also want to win the Golden Boot. It is every athlete’s dream to represent his or her nation. I also want to don the national team jersey,” said the 24-year- old player.

Ngala had a good season at Manica Diamonds and was the top goalscorer after netting six goals for the Gem Boys.
