VOTING in the ZANU PF primary elections in Manicaland Province was conducted smoothly and peacefully, with the majority of the constituencies completing the exercise on Sunday.

Giving an update this evening (Sunday) at the ruling party’s provincial headquarters on how the voting process progressed, ZANU PF national secretary for finance Cde Patrick Chinamasa said constituencies that completed voting and counting of the ballots had delivered the results to the provincial command centre in Mutare.

However, he said the results will only be officially announced by ZANU PF national political commissar, Cde Mike Bimha, at the ruling party’s headquarters.

Cde Chinamasa said most constituencies completed voting yesterday and finalised the counting of the ballots today, before submitting the results.

This was the case in Nyanga North and South, Chimanimani West and East, as well as Mutasa North and Central.

Dangamvura, Chikanga and Mutare Central constituencies had also submitted their results.

In Buhera North, South, West and Central, voting and counting of the ballots had ended and the results were on their way.

Mutare West and South had finished voting and counting was in progress.

In Mutasa South Constituency, Wards 11, 12A and 12B had delivered the results.

“We have had to direct that voting takes place tomorrow in rural Ward 23 of Mutasa South from 7am to 1pm. This is the same case in Mutare North at Nyamajura and Charasika Primary School as they were unable to vote yesterday and today for one reason or another. When that is done, that will complete the voting in the constituency,” said Cde Chinamasa.

Chipinge Central, East and South as well as Mutema-Musikavanhu are yet to deliver the results, but voting and counting has been completed.

Results from Makoni Central, West, North and South, as well as Headlands constituencies have not yet been received, although voting and counting has been completed.

Cde Chinamasa expressed satisfaction with how the ZANU PF primary elections were conducted.

“We ran the primary elections the best way we could and I am quite pleased that we worked tirelessly as a team throughout the period to achieve success in this internal democratic process of our party. I hope this spirit will prevail again tomorrow as we anticipate to conclude the voting.

“We are excited with the overwhelming participation of the candidates as in some case we had up to four or five of them contesting for one position. That demonstrates the massive interest our members have in representing the revolutionary party. The turn-out and enthusiasm by the voters was also very outstanding and I am certain that we will carry that spirit and attitude into the forthcoming harmonised elections and deliver a resounding victory for our presidential candidate, Cde Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa and the party,” he said.

Cde Chinamasa said although isolated cases of disruptions were reported in some areas, they were able to successfully resolve them.

He urged the winning and losing candidates to continue working together in peace and unity by putting the party’s interests first.
