FEAR has gripped villagers in Ward 24 of Mutsago area of Mutare West after three stray elephants were spotted in the area.

A report has since been made to the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks).

In a statement released today, ZimParks said they have engaged Mutare Rural District Council to mobilise resources and enable them to deploy their officers.

“We have received a report that three elephants were seen roaming in the Mutsago area, Ward 24 of Mutare West. Communities in the surrounding areas are being advised to remain calm, stop unnecessary movements and desist from any attempts to scare the elephants away. The animals are dangerous and can pose a threat to life and property,” reads the statement.

ZimParks said they will keep communities in the Mutasago area informed of the development as they move to avert a potential human-wildlife conflict.
