THE race for Premiership promotion took another twist over the weekend after the early pacesetters in the ZIFA Eastern Region Division One posted contrasting results.

Mutare City Rovers beat fellow title contenders, Masvingo United 1-0 at Sakubva Stadium last Friday to gain ground on Chisumbanje-based log leaders, GreenFuel who were held to a 0-0 draw away at Surrey.

GushaBhora reduced the deficit to a single point and remain in second position on 27 points after 12 rounds of fixtures.

Army outfit, Buffaloes continued with their revival after overpowering JM Busha 54 in their own backyard.

There was no respite for Manicaland’s other two representatives in the second-tier division after they failed to collect maximum points.

Winless Manica Diamonds Juniors battled to a 2-2 draw at Zaka Academy FC, while Nzuma Bar’s match against Ruwa ProGroup was handed to their opponents as a walkover on a 0-3 scoreline.

Manica Diamonds Juniors and Nzuma Bar remain rooted at the foot of the table as they occupy the bottom two positions.
