THE Manicaland Rugby Board is recruiting coaches for all age groups from Under-12s to Under-20s in a renewed initiative aimed at strengthening the junior rugby structures.

MRB chairman, Josiah Borerwe confirmed that they have invited applications for specific age groups.

“We are recruiting junior age group coaches for all our age group teams. This includes Under-12s, 14s, 16s, 18s and 20s. We will initially engage them on a volunteer basis. The main aim of this initiative is to revitalise junior age group rugby activities to act as feeders to the senior provincial teams. Without vibrant junior teams we may not be able to achieve anything meaningful at senior level, especially when we consider the future,” said Borerwe.

“These are the national age group structures and also Craven Week age group bands. So as a province we are also trying to have similar structures. This will give our provincial teams proper coaches and fair representation come national team selection. This has been lacking for years now.”

Borerwe added that Manicaland is actually lagging behind.

“In other provinces their players start to get noticed from Grade Seven because they have such structures and are well represented. It gives our provincial players and coaches exposure at the highest level in the land,” he said.
