COMMUNITIES in Mutasa South recently benefited from a free diabetes screening programme conducted by the Zimbabwe Diabetes Association (ZDA) in partnership with the constituency’s aspiring legislator and the ruling ZANU PF candidate, Advocate Misheck Mugadza.

Speaking on the sidelines of the programme, ZDA board chairperson, Bishop Jeremiah Matenhese said the initiative is important as it reduces the risk of the disease and also helps in its effective management.

He commended the stakeholders that partnered his organisation for the initiative.

“We thank the Ministry of Health and Child Care and Adv Mugadza for partnering us on this programme. We went around with doctors who are assisting us since we discovered that some people are living with diabetes without knowing it.

“Diabetes screening is imperative because it raises awareness among people on its causes, how it can be prevented as well as manage it as people may suffer from it without any symptoms showing,” said Bishop Matenhese.

Advo Mugadza said the programme is in line with promoting the Second Republic’s thrust on ensuring affordable access to health services for rural communities.

He said: “With such programmes we can make a difference in our communities and we will continue implementing more health-centred initiatives as a way of complementing Government efforts in that regard.”
