A WELL-KNOWN Chikanga man who recently went missing was found dead in a Dangamvura Water Project trench near St Mary’s Secondary School along Jeff Road.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda, confirmed the death of Ashley Muranda (29) who had been reported missing by his mother, Ms Preacher Chidende.

Inspector Chananda said Muranda’s body was found in the trench by school children on their way home.

“Ashley Muranda went missing last Sunday night.

“His body was found by children who were on their way home from school.

“We are still investigating the case and finer details will emerge when we have the post mortem report. He was fully clothed and his body was found floating in a water-logged trench,” said Inspector Chananda.

Ms Chidende said her son was drunk when he was last seen.

She also said she suspects that her son was abducted from his home, murdered and later dumped in the trench.

“I suspect that my son was murdered and dumped in that trench. I think they abducted him because his room was disorderly when neighbours discovered that he was missing.

“Chairs and other property were strewn all over the floor, pointing that there had been a scuffle in the room. We made a police report the following morning and people in the neighbourhood, including his friends, formed a search party. We looked everywhere, but could not locate him,” she said.
