ALL is set for the Miss Uhuru beauty pageant to be held in Mutare tomorrow (Saturday), which will serve as a precursor to the Independence Day celebrations set for Buhera on April 18.

The pageant is meant to empower young women from different backgrounds, and will run concurrently with the provincial national dress competitions at Skyview Conference Hotel.

Addressing a Press conference yesterday (Thursday) afternoon, Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Misheck Mugadza said the pageant will impart the spirit of national pride and patriotism to young women.

“The event will take centre stage as we prepare to celebrate our Independence Day in the next few weeks in Murambinda.

“We are privileged to be hosting both events, with the Miss Uhuru beauty pageant being a first of its kind. We will have girls from all over the country competing for the crown,” he said.

About 14 contestants drawn from the country’s 10 provinces will take it to the ramp for the coveted crown.

Pageant’s coordinator, Logic Chiremba said the pageant aligns with the theme of this year’s Independence Day celebrations, while contributing to the euphoria surrounding Uhuru commemorations.

“The pageant resonates with the uplifting of the girl child, and the ever rising emblem of branding Zimbabwe.

“The nation turns 44, and we treasure the achievements made by the Second Republic in line with this year’s theme: “Zim@44: Unity, Peace and Development Towards Vision 2030.”

“It is in that light that we designed the pageant to promote the Zimbabwean culture and beauty through showcasing talent and creativity bent on celebrating the achievements of Zimbabwean women with beauty and brains from both urban and rural communities.

“We strive to make an overwhelming impact in the empowerment and total emancipation of the girl child from all backgrounds,” said Chiremba.

Amanda Simba, who will be representing Manicaland, promised to scoop the crown and make the province proud.

“It is a great deal for us as Manicaland. I greatly appreciate the pageant and will do Manicaland proud,” she said.
