MBA in pre-season tourney

THE MANICALAND Basketball Association (MBA) will tomorrow (Saturday ) hold its pre-season tournament at Mutare Boys High School with over 16 teams expected to take part ahead of the start of the new season.

MBA president Tonderai Shasha said the pre-season contest would see both male and female Manicaland affiliate clubs take part.

He also confirmed that all arrangements were in place ahead of the tournament.

“All is set for our pre-season tournament. This is in preparation for the Manicaland Basketball League kick-off that is scheduled for September 28.

Everything is set for the hosting of the tournament. This is a big event on our calendar that is set to prepare teams for the forth-coming season,” said   Shasha.

The  clubs that are going to take part  in the  tournament, fielding both male and female teams include are Africa University, Manicaland State University, Mutare Teachers College, Legends, Dangamvura Knights while Mutare Girls High School, KM Spammers, Wolves, Mercenaries, Sophists, Chiefs and All Saints will field either a males or females outfit.

Mercenaries are the MBA defending champions in the men’s category while Dangamvura Knights conquered all and sundry in the women’s competition last season.

Shasha said they are looking forward to an exciting 2019-20 season.

League matches will be played at various venues across the city.

“This definitely is going to be an exciting season. We have more teams joining the league and also we will be having games played in different venues like Dangamvura, Chikanga and Rusape. This will boost the game and the league.

We hope to see more sponsors coming in help the game to grow,” he said.

Shasha said the league is happy to welcome Kriste Mambo.

“We are so happy to welcome Kriste Mambo.

They are the national Under-20 silver medallist and having them in the League will bring great competition to many teams.

Tears are also geared up for the new season. Every team in the A league is looking forward to playing the national champions, Mercenaries.

Teams will be taking every game seriously and every team will have to prove that they are no pushovers,” he said.
