THE latest Castle Lager Premiership latest log has two teams that use the same home ground, have the same number of points, same number of goals scored, same number of matches won, and the same number of matches that ended in draws after the same number of league matches played.

Their measure of similarity in fortitude does not end there, take a look at their head to head encounter, they drew two all.

These are two Zifa Eastern Region teams – Manica Diamonds and Triangle.

After five rounds of Castle Lager Premiership matches, the Gem Boys, who are hosting Chicken Inn on Sunday at Gibo Stadium in Triangle, and the Sugar Boys are mid table after amassing the same number of points.

The only difference is the number of goals conceded with the Lowveld outfit having conceded one more than their Mutare counterparts thus the Gem Boys are seventh while Triangle FC is in position seven on the latest log standings.

Manica Diamonds’ gaffer, Luke Masomere, whose team is bearing the brunt of travelling for every match as Sakubva Stadium renovations drag on, said identical numbers on the log between them and Triangle is an intriguing coincidence.

“It is a coincidence. It is rare but normal in football. I remember Dynamos under Calisto Pasuwa when they took the championship consecutively, it happened between Dynamos and the team in second position. They were eventually separated by a very small goal difference,” said Masomere.

Triangle coach Taurai Mangwiro said there is no mythical explanation to it and in fact, his team has amassed the same number of points it had by the same time last season.

“There is no mythical explanation to it. My team has amassed the same number of points it had by the same time last season. So I am not really surprised about our figures only that it is rare for two teams to have identical numbers like what we have with Manica Diamonds,” said Mangwiro.

Whether the identical numbers between the two teams will last longer than this weekend, it remains to be seen.

Manica Diamonds are in a tricky assignment against Chicken Inn after a late goal deep into injury time broke the resistance of a resolute Manica Diamonds in an evenly contested Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at the Colliery Stadium last weekend.

Triangle faces inconsistent Black Rhinos away at the National Sports Stadium in the capital tomorrow (Saturday).
