MUTARE’S first ever crime movie, Vicious Circle will première on a pay-per-view platform, PlayAfrika TV on Monday (August 16).

The movie’s trailer which is now on YouTube has now reached more than 50 000 views since it was uploaded.

It has also received rave reviews on the social media.

The movie’s executive producer, Stephen Mutsago told The Weekender this week that the movie will première on PlayAfrika TV on August 16.

DVDs will be availed from August 25.

“The general feedback has been encouraging and it seems 86 percent of the audience fell in love with the YouTube trailer and are keen to watch the full film. We rated the reviews from ZBC TV, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter especially the ZimCelebs Facebook page and are very encouraging. The producer of the movie, Robert Zvidza said it gobbled about US$20 000 to produce it.

“It was a low budget film and we used about US$20 000. If all goes well, we expect to get around US$50 000 from the production. We are selling DVDs and we have engaged PlayAfrika TV to première it. We will do corporate premières across the country. The Covid-19 pandemic has held us back on having the local premières. We have engaged the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to sell the DVDs in schools,” he said.

The movie, which has a mixture of renowned Mutare and Harare-based actors, actresses and newcomers in the showbiz industry, includes 21 members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police.

The movie is based on award-winning author, Stephen Mutsago’s book which carries the movie title.

The tourism sector will also benefit from the production as it will market Eastern Highlands’ scenic resorts.

Scenes were shot from the rolling countryside, the region’s tea and coffee plantations as well as the green meadows.

Vicious Circle sees a sequence of reciprocal events unfolding, with two or more elements aggravating each other and worsening the situation as a result.

The movie, which stars Detective HOD, played by Stephen Mutsago, is a captivating and inspiring story of a dedicated police officer who religiously and bravely investigates complicated, tragic and sensitive crimes.

The more he attempts to do so, the more they become complex.

This ends up sucking in his family.

Eventually, Detective HOD busts up a well-funded criminal racket, DETROIT, which is a network of armed robbers, murderers, ritualists, researchers of crime, kidnappers and drug peddlers, among others.

The cunning and calculative cartel navigates through troubled waters and makes HOD’s life miserable despite his concerted efforts to combat their criminal activities.

The gang always devices new ways to evade police arrest, including the use of black magic.

However in the end, Detective HOD emerges victorious and brings the culprits to book.
