A BRAWL over two quarts of beer ended tragically last week in Chakohwa, Chimanimani, after a 24-year-old man was fatally stabbed with a knife.

Kudakwashe Musweweshiri died on the spot after he sustained serious injuries on the head and on the back after he was allegedly stabbed by Takudzwa and Lazen Shoko.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Norbert Muzondo confirmed the incident which happened at Chakohwa Business Centre along the Mutare-Masvingo Highway last week.

Kudakwashe was having beer at a bottle store with Cosmo Musweweshiri and Tafadzwa Mumera when Cosmo went to buy two quarts of beer.

Gilbert Mutizawanda followed Cosmo to the counter and asked him to buy him a quart of beer.

Cosmo refused to do so.

Gilbert continued pestering Cosmo for beer until he was pushed away.

“Tafadzwa then confronted Cosmo, asking him why he had pushed Gilbert.

“Another patron, Ngenyasha Madii, intervened and refrained the two from fighting, but he was slapped by Tafadzwa once on the face.

“Kudakwashe then went to the counter and took the beers that had been bought and smashed one of them.

“He took a broken piece of the bottle and charged towards Ngenyasha with the intention of stabbing him. He missed his target and instead stabbed Takudzwa.

“In retaliation, Takudzwa got into a fist fight with Kudakwashe. Lazen joined in the fight and stabbed Kudakwashe with a knife and a broken beer bottle on the head and back. Kudakwashe died on the spot,” said Inspector Muzondo.

While Takudzwa was arrested, Lazen vanished from the scene and he is still at large.

Inspector Muzondo appealed to members of the public with information leading to Lazen’s arrest to contact their nearest police station.

Meanwhile, Musabani Chereni (55), is lucky to be alive after he was allegedly hit with an iron bar by Shepherd Simango over an undisclosed misunderstanding.

Chereni and Samson Makavaza were drinking beer at Machona Business Centre in Chief Garahwa’s area in Chisumbanje when the incident happened.

He further hit him on the left shoulder.

Makavaza tried to refrain Simango, but the latter assaulted him as well.

He hit Makavaza on the left shoulder and vanished from the scene.
