ZANU PF national secretary for security, Cde Lovemore Matuke, has called for unity among all cadres, and ensure that they are allowed to elect candidates of their choice in the ongoing district elections.

Speaking after Tuesday’s meeting with the provincial leadership at Marymount Teachers’ College, Cde Matuke, said they would consult the acting national political commissar, Cde Patrick Chinamasa to ensure a re-run of elections in areas where disputes were reported.

“The meeting today was meant to meet with the provincial executive ahead of the forthcoming district and provincial elections.

‘‘We were calling for unity, and peace during the elections. We know that whenever there are elections, people jostle for positions, but we have realised that everyone here is willing to work together.

“Where there were challenges during the district elections, we will present the issue to the political commissar to ensure that re-runs are done.

‘‘People should be allowed to vote for the candidates of their choice. We are happy that the stampede for office shows that people have confidence in the party,” said Cde Matuke.

Addressing last Sunday’s provincial coordination committee meeting at the same venue, Zanu PF Manicaland provincial chairman, Cde Mike Madiro, expressed confidence that the party will surpass the five million votes target for President Mnangagwa during the 2023 harmonised elections.

“Five million votes are achievable. Manicaland will contribute significantly to surpass the five million votes target. The 65 percent win in favour of Zanu PF is given,” he said.

He further urged party members to desist from factionalism, saying the revolutionary party was known for its well-disciplined members.

“Zanu PF is a revolutionary party. This is a party that is known for having well-disciplined members. Our liberation war heroes and heroines did not wage the liberation struggle to have factionalism in the party. No one will destroy this party,” he said.

Cde Madiro also said factionalists must be warned, and be orientated on the proper Zanu PF way of doing things.

“President Mnangagwa is preaching a let bygones be bygones message when it comes to factionalists from the old republic, and we should follow that.

“All factionalists are known. They need to be taught the proper way of doing business. Factionalism is a thing of way back. In the Second and New Republic, we do not condone factionalism. Let us not cause disunity in the party.

“We do not expect disturbances in the party. Zanu PF is a peaceful revolutionary party,” he said

Cde Madiro added: “We should have team spirit in order to foster development. As a province, we should aspire to do better because this is the year for economic transformation, and also ensuring that Government policies are achieved.”
