Mutare-based gospel supremo, Dorcas Moyo, is walking with a spring in her step after raising the Manicaland flag high by coming out tops in the best traditional gospel category at this year’s Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) ceremony recently held in Harare.

Moyo outclassed Mambo Dhuterere, Breeze Music and Vabati VaJehovah to clinch the coveted and well deserved prize.

Hard work, determination and perseverance seems to be paying off for the ‘Bvisai Marara’ hit-maker who was also recently nominated for the National Arts Merit Award in the outstanding female musician category.

Moyo, who boasts of a rich discography, seems to have struck the right chords on her last few albums such as ‘Bvisai Marara’ and ‘Ndibatsireiwo Mwari’.

She has managed to immaculately blend her lyrics and instruments, thanks to prolific producer, Olin Anderson.

Moyo made history after becoming Manicaland’s first gospel artiste to hit 1, 4 million views on Youtube.

Speaking through her manager, Peter Madondo, Dorcas said she was elated and determined to achieve more.

“We are super excited to be recognised among the very best in Zimbabwe. We are honestly humbled by the immense support we have received from the people of Manicaland in particular and Zimbabwe at large. We celebrate the award not as Heavenly Melodies Family, but as Manicaland family.

“We cherish our fans and we pray for the continued support even as we are on the course of dropping our latest offering, ‘Bvudzi Rangu Ramera’. May we stick together for we are stronger together,” said Dorcas.

Dorcas was born in Goromonzi and is a third born in a family of six.

She started singing at the age of six when she was then the youngest member of the praise and worship team at her church.
She recorded her first album, ‘Ndokusheedzai Jesu’ in 2006 before releasing ‘Ndinokutungamirira’ in 2008.

She took a sabbatical before releasing a single, ‘Zvininipise’ which features local gospel artiste, Blessing Shumba.

She also released another single, ‘Wakabuda Sei’ which features talented Admire Nago of the ‘Wandigadza’ hit.

She has since released albums that include ‘Wakabuda Sei?’, ‘Murapi’, ‘Hurukuro’, ‘Haakotsire’ and ‘Munoramba Muri Mwari’.
