TWO men from Buhera have been declared fugitives from justice after allegedly assaulting a suspected “goat thief” to death and tied the corpse on a tree branch using shoe laces to disguise the offence as suicide.

The incident occurred on August 13, 2018 when the suspects – Action Mabhuracho (42), of Machini village and Regererai Chigwati, of Mawoyo village, under Chief Nyashanu in Buhera, allegedly murdered Titus Kundoiseyo (22), of Honye village, accusing him of stealing goats.

Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa said a manhunt has been launched for the two fugitives and appealed to members of the public for information leading to their arrest.

“On August 13, at around 9am Kundoiseyo was at the homestead of Robert Mbavara (42) in Mawoyo village to see his two friends Anoid (28) and Special Mbavara (20).

“He was then approached by the two suspects who grabbed, assaulted and accused him of stealing two goats from a neighboring village. The suspects took the deceased to the homestead of Venganai Mbavara (48), about 150 meters from Robert Mbavara’s homestead where there was traditional beer. They started to assault him with open hands and a stick all over the body until the victim started bleeding from the mouth.

“At around 10am, the two suspects escorted the deceased to Muzokomba, and along the way took turns to assault him with a stick and open hands. They two were seen by Ephias Mbavara (58), of Mawoyo village, who tried to restrain them from assaulting Kundoiseyo, but his pleas fell on deaf ears,” said Insp Kakohwa.

The two suspects returned to Mbavara’s homestead for beer drinking and announced to villagers gathered there that they had assaulted Kundoiseyo until he confessed to stealing goats.

“At around 12:30pm, Urayai Muchemwa (37), of Taurai village, who was headed for the Mbavara homestead for a beer binge, saw Kundoiseyo’s body hanging from a tree branch and informed Manivell Kudese (29). The two reported the matter to Murambinda Police Station at around 4:30pm.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from Buhera attended the scene and upon inspecting the body observed bruises on cheek, right hand and mouth.

The body was tied with two shoe laces.
