PERRENIAL water challenges are persisting in Chipinge’s Ward 21 and villagers are fearing for the worst in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Villagers in the affected communities are grappling with water shortages for domestic and agricultural use. They are now appealing to Government and development partners to intervene and ameliorate the situation.
Ward 21 councillor, Councillor Lucas Muchinani, said sustainable and long-term solutions are needed to address the water challenges.
He said the available water sources are not enough to service the communities.
“We are facing water challenges here. Most boreholes in this area are malfunctioning and need rehabilitation. We were hoping to have new boreholes sunk, but nothing has materialised so far. We are now appealing to Government to intervene and save the situation before it gets bad,” said Cllr Muchinani.
He said not only are water challenges forcing people to walk long distances in search of the precious liquid, income generating projects like market gardening have also been affected.
He added that livestock is also being affected due to lack of enough drinking water.
