ASPIRING House of Assembly candidates in Chipinge District are confident of victory and have promised to drive developmental projects in their respective constituencies once elected during the forthcoming harmonised elections.

Chipinge District has four constituencies, that is Chipinge Central, Chipinge East, Chipinge South and Mutema-Musikavanhu.

Chipinge South is the most contested constituency with six candidates vying for the legislative seat.

These are Cde Enock Porusingazi (Zanu PF), Mr Takawira Mupakati (NCA), Mr Clifford Hlatshwayo (CCC), Mr Nelson Sithole (DUZ) and two independent candidates, Mr Ronald Mlambo and Mr Army Maunde.

Outgoing legislator for Chipinge South, Cde Porusingazi, said he will continue spearheading the development of the community if re-elected into office.

“I want to continue developing this constituency. We have done several projects in the area of health and education, and going forward, I want to see irrigation schemes being expanded, roads and bridges being maintained, among other things,” said Cde Porusingazi.

NCA candidate, Mr Mupakati said when he is voted to represent the constituency, he will engage Government departments to spearhead infrastructural development.

CCC candidate, Mr Hlatshwayo also spoke about roads rehabilitation and irrigation expansion, something that the Second Republic is already seized with.

In Chipinge East, Zanu PF candidate, Cde Lincoln Dhliwayo; NCA aspiring candidate, Mr Samuel Mupaji; outgoing legislator as well as CCC candidate, Mr Matthew Mateu Mlambo, all highlighted plans to lobby for the rehabilitation of the Chipinge-Mt Selinda-Jersey Road, along with other community development projects.

Cde Dhliwayo said he will engage the responsible authorities to address the constituency’s transport challenges.

“Our people are facing serious transport challenges because our main Chipinge-Mt Selinda Road is in a poor state. I will seriously lobby for the rehabilitation of the road. I will also ensure that we increase the number of schools and clinics in the constituency as well as maintain bridges,” said Cde Dhliwayo.

In Chipinge Central, outgoing legislator, Cde Raymore Machingura promised to empower youths through various initiatives and further pledged to improve social amenities in the constituency.

Said Cde Machingura: “We want to ensure that our youths are equipped with the necessary skills to be self-sustainable. We have since lobbied for the establishment of a technical college in Chipinge and Mutare Polytechnic is baby-sitting it. We want to continue building more classrooms for our schools. I want to lobby for value addition of our wide range of agricultural products.”

Numerous efforts to engage CCC aspiring candidate, Mr Livingstone Dhlumo, were in vain as he refused to grant The Manica Post an interview.

Zanu PF aspiring House of Assembly member for Mutema-Musikavanhu Constituency, Cde Angeline Gata, said she would engage Government to help the constituency improve its food security.

“The bulk part of the constituency falls under natural region five which receives low rainfall. Growing crops in this area is very difficult and I will engage Government and partners to establish more irrigation schemes, while rehabilitating existing ones.

“The project has already started and I have managed to secure electricity transformers for some irrigation schemes which were not working due to lack of power. The programme is continuous and more schemes will benefit,” she said.
