A TRIP Trans Buses employee has been hauled before the courts for selling fuel and converting US$1 760 to his own use.

Garikai Williams (28) of Sakubva appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Prisca Manhibi facing fraud charges.

He was denied bail and remanded in custody to September 28 for trial.

Prosecuting, Ms Tafadzwa Chiwanza said from August 20 to 27, Williams sold fuel worth US$1 760 belonging to the complaint, Tongogara Mandiya (42) who sells fuel at the Trip-Trans Garage.

On August 27, Mandiya instructed Williams to give US$100 to one Dereck, but the latter did not act as instructed.

“Mandiya proceeded to the garage to confront Williams. Williams had already vanished from the office and fled to Harare. Mandiya reported the matter to the police resulting in a manhunt for Williams,” said Ms Chiwanza.

The court heard that Williams used some of the proceeds to pamper a lady of the night he hooked up with for two nights.

“We spent two nights together and I charged him US$20 on each occasion,” said the woman whose name was not mentioned.

She added: “On September 5, I was surprised to see the accused approaching my workplace with two police officers alleging that he had given me part of the money.”

Only $6 800 was recovered.
