A 48-YEAR-OLD businesswoman from Zimunya (name withheld) was last week gang-raped and robbed at gunpoint while her husband and child, who both had their hands tied, watched.
The armed robbers also fired two shots in the ceiling during the raid at the victim’s bottle store and grocery shop in Zimunya.
The suspects, who are now fugitives from justice, escaped with goods and cash amounting to $2000.
The raid occurred on August 27 around 2am.
They smashed the bottle store door to gain entry and found a 26-year-old bar lady asleep.
They took $18 from her and fired a shot in the ceiling, and ordered her stay put and remain silent.
They proceeded to the grocery shop where the businesswoman and her family were sleeping.
Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa said the armed robbers fired another shot.
They also attacked the businesswoman with a machete on her back and arms.
They demanded cash before taking turns to rape her while her husband and child watched.
They took $32 from her and escaped with grocery worth over $1969.
Insp Kakohwa expressed dismay over the frequency of armed robberies in and around Mutare and appealed for information leading to the arrest of the armed robbers.
“We implore anyone with information on any of the robberies that have occurred in and around Mutare to approach any police station with information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators,” Insp Kakohwa said.
