22-YEAR-OLD Denvor Munashe Ngaru believes there is nothing to stop him from becoming a household name in bodybuilding and one day lift the Mr Zimbabwe silverware.

The brawny youngster who stays in Dreamhouse suburb of Mutare ventured into the sport of bodybuilding at a tender age of 13 as he followed in the footsteps of his late father.

Had it not been of the Covid-19 layoff that froze all sporting activities across the globe, coupled with lack of sponsorship that has seen a much lesser number of tournaments being organised in recent years, Ngaru could have partook in more competitions, but to date he has only contested in the Mr Novice and Mr Manicaland Classic competitions.

In the junior bodybuilders categories of the Mr Novice and Mr Manicaland Classic competitions, he settled for third and fourth positions respectively.

He reckons the potential he has in the sport.

“I believe I have what it takes to achieve more in the sport of bodybuilding. This is something that I take seriously and I hope to achieve great things one day out of this sport.

“I took it up from my late father. Her was into bodybuilding and participated in numerous competitions even though he really did not win a major national competition. Therefore, I feel I should take it up from there and make sure one day I walk to the podium to receive a national contest first position price.

“Winning a competition like Mr Zimbabwe will be a dream come true. I will continue working hard for that and I know with God everything is possible,” he said.

He has now set sight on Mr Novice Zimbabwe to be held in Harare on March 26.

“Even though I am preparing for many competitions that we expect will be held in the near future, the immediate aim is to put up a splendid performance in the Mr Novice Zimbabwe that is set for March 26 in Harare.

“There are other competitions such as Mr Manicaland Classic and Mr Ironman among others, but they will be held at a later date to be announced. Therefore, I am working hard so that I get good results when those competitions are finally held,” he said.

Bodybuilding has a huge following in Manicaland and the country at large, but the sport has suffered a major setback owing to lack of corporate partnerships and over the years, it has been left to heavily depend on selected enthusiasts with a passion for the sport.
