AFRO-fusion diva, Lindiwe Nyika, affectionately known in the music circles as Mamo, has embarked on a weekly interactive mental health support programme aimed at concientising people about the importance of mental health.

He will perform every Friday at Courtauld Theatre. The talented artiste will be holding peer interactive educational discussions on stress-related matters starting from today (Friday) between 5pm and 8pm.

Many youths are victims of depression which eventually leads to serious mental health problems which, in some circumstances, end up unattended.

“The aim of this support group is to help people cope with stress, stigma and depression. As artistes we inspire people not only through music, but at times through discussions. I want to help a lot of young people to overcome depression which in some parts of the world has led to a lot of suicide related cases,” said Mamo.

Prior to these weekly discussions, the artiste had been using social media to inspire people mainly through WhatsApp, but for vividness, she has now initiated the weekly mental health support group.

She is upbeat that the support group will go a long way in dealing with stress-related matters. “Like the common phrase problem shared is half solved, I think an open interactive support group will definitely reduce cases of depression. Youths need counselling and proper advice which we seek on such platforms,” she added.
