A 50-YEAR-OLD Mutare man was last week hauled before the courts for allegedly raping his 13-year-old daughter over a period of six months.
The man (name withheld to protect the identity of the victim) was taking care of the child after he had booted her mother out of their matrimonial home. The court heard that the accused became the sole custodian of the victim after his wife developed mental complications.
The man appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe facing rape and indecent assault charges.

The court heard that initially, the victim’s elder sister took custody of her for three months. But when the girls’ father took the victim back, he raped her on several occasions between August 2019 and January this year.
The court heard that the sexual abuse only stopped when the elder sister moved in to stay with them for a few weeks.
When the victim started complaining of abdominal pain and sores on her private parts, her sister encouraged her to reveal more. The victim then disclosed that she was being abused by her father. The sisters then made a police report, thereby leading to their father’s arrest.
The victim was referred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for medical examinations. The accused was remanded in custody.
