MUTARE’S major water sources are experiencing high turbidity after heavy rains received in Mutasa District, which has affected production of the precious commodity at the Odzani Water Treatment Plant.

Turbidity is the measurement of how clear or cloudy water is and is caused by suspended particles such as mud, silt and algae.

Turbidity is a key test of water quality and the cloudier the water the higher its turbidity.

In a notice to the public, the local authority said reduced water production from the high turbidity has resulted in depressed supply across the city.

”Notice is hereby given to all residents `and stakeholders that City of Mutare’s major water sources have experienced high turbidity due to heavy rains received in Mutasa District. As a result, there shall be reduced water production at the Odzani Water Treatment Plant. The development may result in depressed water supply city-wide,” reads the notice.

Mutare City Council urged residents and stakeholders to use water sparingly until normal water production is restored.
