YOUTHFUL Zifa Eastern Region Division One debutants Manica Diamonds Juniors’ revival continues after they forced a 0-0 draw against ex-Premiership side Masvingo United in the weekend’s fixtures, while Mutare City Rovers fluffed the chance to close the gap on pacesetters GreenFuel after they were held to a 3-3 draw at Chiredzi Stars.
The junior Gem Boys have now gone for four games without defeat after picking two victories and as many draws. They have been steadily climbing up the ladder in their quest to duck demotion back to Division Two.
Coach Hibron “Adhala Chommiey” Makukutu attributed their revival to the determination of the youngsters in his team.
“We have managed to turn around our fortunes after a slow start and everyone is excited with the improvement the boys are showing. Our target is to avoid relegation and we are working hard to achieve that. I have confidence in the team,” he said.
Gusha Bhora’s hopes of wresting pole position from GreenFuel suffered a severe dent as they could only manage a draw, while their arch rivals collected maximum points at home to Ruwa ProGroup with a 1-0 victory. The ethanol producers have now amassed 56 points, extending their lead by an 11-point gap after 22 games.
It looks increasingly likely that Premiership football will come to Chisumbanje in Chipinge South if GreenFuel’s impeccable form is anything to go by.
Army side Buffaloes were handed all three points on a 3-0 scoreline courtesy of a walkover on Lowveld United.
