COACH Jairos Tapera and his men were once against subjected to a poor start of the season when Manica Diamonds lost to a determined Simba Bhora in a Castle Lager Premiership season opener that ended in a 2-3 result at Sakubva Stadium today.

Although they eventually finished the season on an impressive second position on the log table, the Gem Boys endured a similar false start to the season last year.

Junior Makunike opened the floodgates for the visitors in the 10th minute before Tymon Machope doubled the lead in the 21st minute.

However, it only took a minute of fine exchanges that culminated into the hosts pulling one goal back through diminutive yet hardworking Kudzanai Dhemere.

The five goal thriller saw the hosts returning after the breather playing a more purposeful game and restored parity in the 53nd minute through Trevour Mavhunga.

However, two minutes later, man of the match Billy Veremu sealed his team’s dominance with a well-executed hard and low in a goalkeeper-to-beat situation that left Manica Diamonds shotstopper Tedious Baye, a well beaten man.
