THE Ministry of Health and Child Care (MOHCC) in collaboration with the Angel of Hope Foundation has started conducting a five-day long eye cataract clinic for adults free of charge.

This will see patients with eye cataracts being screened and operated on for free.

Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals head of public relations Mr Linos Dhire confirmed in an interview this afternoon that they are carrying out surgeries.

Starting today (Sunday), the services will be offered until Thursday.

The services are being conducted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals’ Sekuru Kaguvi Eye Hospital to patients from across the country affected by cataracts.

“We have a target of operating on 500 patients by Thursday. Operations have already begun today (Sunday) and will run until Thursday. The services are only being offered to adults,” he said.

Mr Dhire said the procedures are starting with a screening per patient and the surgical operation is set to begin as soon as one is diagnosed.

A cataract is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens behind the iris and pupil, whose signs and symptoms include blurred vision.
