MINISTER of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Nokuthula Matsikenyere, has urged motorists to exercise extra caution while driving during public holidays.
Minister Matsikenyere made the call today during her visit to victims of St Charles Lwanga High School bus disaster at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital and Chipinge District Hospital.
“It is sad that we continue losing on the roads lives that could have helped in the development of this country. We are losing breadwinners and young children owing to such accidents. We really need to urge our drivers to exercise extreme caution on the roads, especially during these public holidays,” said Minister Matsikenyere, who also lost relatives in the accident.
A hired St Charles Lwanga bus, with 108 passengers on board, was involved in an accident five kilometers to Jopa Turn-off along Chimanimani-Chipinge Road on Thursday night.
36 people died on the spot while one more was pronounced dead upon arrival at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.
