MUTARE has given birth to a new dendera son — Lamerk Mutero — who burst onto the music radar with a new six-track album dubbed “Musango Mune Shumba.”

Although the dendera genre has been largely associated with the Chimbetu family, Mutero is determined to create his own legacy around a genre that demands both finesse and creativity to thrive.

If the positive response that his latest project “Musango Mune Shumba” is receiving in the music industry, then Mutero has gotten a major breakthrough for his long struggling musical career.

“Musango Mune Shumba” is a six-track album which is distinguishable from his past works through its fluent instrumentals and voice projection that are evident  throughout.

The album is on high rotation in some of the radio stations in Zimbabwe, in public transport, nightclubs and weddings across the country.

The six tracks on the album are “Marian”, “Mari”, “Hupenyu ibhora”, “Musengwa”, “Mai Rosa” and the title track “Musango Mune Shumba”.

Mutero advises listeners to love and treat each other with respect especially if they have taken matrimonial vows.

Other themes tackled on the new album include hard work, social ills like alcoholism, substance abuse and prostitution, among others.

Apart from the rave reviews the album has received on radio stations, Mutero has taken the initiative to market his new project countrywide, in a move that also seeks to widen his fan base.

He is billed to perform at Red Apple Night Club, in Odzi, tonight.

This will be his first gig outside Mutare this year.

He is also scheduled to perform in Waterfalls, Harare, end of this month.

“I believe I am on the right track. I managed to master some basic dendera tricks, including a powerful lead guitar and heart-pounding bass guitar.

“The response I am receiving is overwhelming and encouraging. I took my time to come up with a polished album that I believe, if well marketed, will take my career to dizzy heights.

“My lyrics are inspired by the day-to-day life experiences, particularly the highs and lows,” narrated Mutero.
