MORE than 30 pool players in Mutare are set to shake off the off-season dust when the Tagaz One Man Pool Tournament gets underway tomorrow (Saturday) at Tagaz Pool Joint, Macs Complex in Palmerstone suburb.

The tournament, with a registration fee of US$10, kicks off at 10am.

A draw will be held today (Friday).

Played in a race to five format, the tournament is expected to hit top gear in the quarter finals where competitive matches will still maintain a race to five format.

Albert Mataga, the spokesperson for tomorrow’s competition, said all is set for the potentially enthralling event.

Mataga said thorough vetting of the participants will be done in order to ensure that the cream of players in MPL will take to the tables.

“We are happy to be hosting, once again, a potentially exciting pool competition where we will have 32 of the best pool players from Mutare Pool League.

“We will have prizes for the winners, especially the top four, while number five to eight will also get complimentary prizes. We are looking forward to an exciting contest,” said Mataga.

Of late, there has been relatively better financial rewards for pool players after every competition compared to other sporting genres on the local scene where players walk away empty-handed after a day’s effort.

No wonder the unmatched interest the game of pool has generated to different age groups, from the young to the elderly in the province and beyond.

Fast turning into a reputable hub for pool competitions, Tagaz Pool Joint has hosted the exciting Black Label Tournament which was sponsored by Delta Beverages as well as Mutare Pool League One Man Tournament early this year.

For players in the Mutare Pool League (MPL), forthcoming tournaments include the National Champions League Tournament which was recently postponed due to the expected Cyclone Freddy.

It is now set for March 11 and 12 at Villa Spot in Dangamvura.

The local players will also have another one-man tournament this month on a date and venue to be announced, while the March 25 weekend will see the 2023 MPL rolling into life.
