THE demand for reporting outcomes and impacts of the nation’s development efforts has become huge, prompting a National Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) survey to be conducted in the coming months, a Government official has said.

Speaking during a training of enumerators workshop that is currently ongoing at Mutare Teachers’ College, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises, Mr Moses Mhike, said the country needed to improve in terms of statistics on how much MSMEs are contributing to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“The training is being conducted in preparation for the 2021 MSMEs survey which is to be finished before the end of the first quarter of 2022.

“As we implement devolution, we would want to see the contribution of every province to the national GDP and the data and statistics that will come as a result this survey will be helpful,” he said.

250 enumerators from across all 10 provinces are undergoing the training.

In an interview, Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat) Acting Director General, Mrs Tafadzwa Bandama, said demand for statistics on the business segment continues to grow given the increasing impact of MSMEs in national, regional and global economies.
