MUTARE-headquartered hardware, agro-dealer and general retailer giant, Major Family Savings ( MFS) recently opened a hardware and farming store at Watsomba Shopping Centre in Mutasa District.

The new outlet is MFS’ 14th branch, following the Headlands and Nyika outlets in Masvingo Province, opened over the past three months.

The fast growing MFS now operates eight branches in Manicaland and six in Masvingo.

Previously known as Mutare Farm Supplies, MFS rebranded to Major Family Savings to create a universal identity and a name that the whole country can identify.

MFS’ expansion to rural areas is aimed at bringing convenience to community members by lessening travelling expenses as people were being forced to travel long distances to meet their farming and hardware needs in the past.

Among its suppliers who came to grace the official opening of the Watsomba outlet were Prime Seed-Co, Money Maker Pumps, Mukushi Seeds, Mealie Brand, Steward Bank, Panner, National Foods Limited, Agro-dealers and Avanes Seeds companies.

MFS chief executive officer, Mr Munyaradzi Shadaya, said the company had opened a branch in Watsomba to enable the locals to buy farming and hardware material locally.

“Our roots as MFS are in agriculture and we are investing more in farming.

“The new shop shall cater for the farming and hardware needs of people in this community.

“Expenses are now lesser as there is no need to travel to as far as Mutare to get these services.

“The prices at the newly opened branch are affordable and we are keen to offer the best service to satisfy our customers.

“Watsomba community has welcomed us and we have to keep the relationship working by bringing convenience to them.,” said Mr Shadaya.

He added that despite the rebranding, the company still maintained the same abbreviation.

“We rebranded to Major Family Savings in a bid to create a universal identity and a name that the whole country can identify, but still we maintained the same abbreviation.

“We have plans to penetrate into more parts of Zimbabwe,” he said.

Speaking at the same occasion, acting Chief Mutasa said he was happy with the positive developments taking place in Mutasa District.

“I am very happy and on behalf of the traditional leadership of this community, I will give maximum support to any form of development that comes to our area.

“In this case, costs have been reduced to farmers and the rest of the community as farming and hardware services have been brought to our doorstep,” said Chief Mutasa.
