Three days after a protection order had been granted against him by a Mutare magistrate, a man thumped his nose at the order and stabbed his ex-wife with a knife.

Mike Mutepo appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate, Mr Richard Ramaboa last week facing contempt of court charges.

He was remanded out of custody to August 11 on $50 000 bail.

Prosecuting, Ms Sharon Mlambo said on July 15, Melody Muterere was granted a protection order which barred Mutepo from assaulting, intimidating and insulting her at Mutare Civil Court.

On July 18, Mutepo allegedly visited Muterere in Dangamvura in a bid to rekindle their relationship.

Muterere refused to entertain her ex-husband and asked him to leave.

“Mutepo became violent and started assaulting Muterere. He grabbed a knife and stabbed her hand. She was seriously injured. Mutepo also broke Muterere’s windowpane,” said Ms Mlambo.

Mutepo, however, denied the charges saying he was not aware of the existence of the protection order as he was in default when the case was heard before the Mutare Civil Court on July 15.

The accused also denied stabbing Muterere with a knife.

Mr Ramaboa warned Mutepo against using force to win back lost love.
