After going separate ways with his wife, Archford Manyere could not stand seeing her moving on with another man and decided to kill Tarirai Zhanje using a machete.

Zhanje died after sustaining serious injuries all over his body.

The incident happened in Mugweni Village under Chief Makumbe’s area in Buhera. An incensed  Manyere, who was wearing a balaclava when he committed the heinous crime, was arrested a few hours after committing the crime.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the incident and said Manyere is assisting the police with investigations.

Villagers who were interviewed by The Weekender said they are yet to come to terms with the incident.

“We were left tongue-tied by the incident. Manyere and his wife were divorced but they were still staying in the same neighbourhood. His ex-wife then moved on with Zhanje. This did not go down well with Manyere, hence his decision to attack Zhanje,” said Crimson Mangwiro of Marindire Village.

Another villager said: “The accused would always threaten the deceased with death. When he finally committed the crime, Manyere tried to disguise himself with a balaclava, but eyewitnesses managed to identify him. He was arrested shortly after committing the crime.”

Inspector Kakohwa narrated: “At around 7pm on the night in question, Zhanje was seated with his nephew in the kitchen when Manyere stormed in armed with a machete. He was putting on a balaclava.

“Manyere went straight to Zhanje and struck him with the machete once on the head. As Zhanje lay in a pool of blood, his nephew — Talent — stormed out of the house in fear and shock. Manyere gave chase but failed to catch him.

“Talent alerted other villagers and they immediately gathered at the scene. The police were alerted and they attended the scene,” said Inspector Kakohwa.

He urged people to solve their disputes amicably.

Meanwhile, a worker at Tsatsate Farm in Nyanga was last week found dead in a potato field in a suspected murder case.

Amon Nyarurwe was found dead a day after he had a beer binge with his friends. The police also confirmed the incident.

“Nyaruwe was last seen drinking beer at Tsatsate Farm compound with his colleague who has only been identified as Billard. He did not report for duty the following morning, thereby prompting his co-workers to look for him. Clifford Gotekote, a security guard at the farm compound, found Nyaruwe’s body in a potato field.

“When the police attended the scene, they discovered that Nyaruwe had a blood clot in his mouth,” said Inspector Kakohwa.

Investigations are still in progress.
