RUSAPE General Hospital will next Friday host a fundraising golf tournament at Warren Hills Golf Club in Harare with proceeds from the competition to be channeled towards refurbishment of facilities at the district health referral institution.
This is the second tournament organised by the hospital with the first one held at the same venue last year where it managed to raise US$4 000.
Stewart Karembo, the hospital’s medical superintendent, said the hospital is appealing for both cash and kind donations so that they attend to the laundry as a matter of urgency.
Karembo added that several corporates have already indicated that they will attend and sponsor the event.
“Our hospital will be hosting a fundraising golf tournament at Warren Hills Golf club in Harare. We want to raise funds so we can purchase new and modern laundry equipment for the hospital. The current laundry equipment is now aged and no longer functions properly. It is always down and as a result we incurre high operational costs.
“We are only charging RTGS$ 250 for participating teams and at this tournament the floor will be open to corporates, religious organisations and individuals to pledge their assistance to the hospital in cash and kind. A number of corporates have confirmed their participation at this year’s tournament.
“This year’s function will be bigger and better because we now have experience from the inaugural tournament which was supported by corporates such as TSCZ, Agribank, CBZ, Nyaradzo, PSMI, MASCA, OLD MUTUAL, Medirite Healthcare, ST Giles, Moonlight among others, said Karembo.
Rusape General Hospital is appealing for assistance from well-wishers to replace some of its ageing equipment which are now affecting the provision of quality health care to patients. The hospital’s equipment especially its laundry is now too old as it was acquired in the 1950s when the hospital was established.
The laundry equipment is constantly breaking down costing the hospital in repairs and maintenance.
Rusape General is the second largest health facility in the province after Mutare Provincial with seven doctors, 150 nurses and several supporting staff working in 15 departments. The 260 bed institution serves a population of over 324 000 people in Makoni district and is referral to 57 clinics.
