A MASVINGO man was recently arrested for deliberately supplying false information to the police.

Farai Mutemberi (36) appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Prisca Manhibi, charged with contravening Section 180 (1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

The complaint was the State, represented by Detective Constable Efficiency Manyonga from Mutare’s Criminal Investigations Department.

Mutemeri was accused of deliberately supplying false information to a public authority, Constable Moreblessing Katema, that his Toyota Fun Cargo vehicle had been stolen.

He was found guilty and fined $10 000.

Public prosecutor, Ms Tafadzwa Chiwanza said the accused was arrested after being further interrogated and admitted filing a false report.

“On November 26, the accused filed a report of theft of trust property alleging that one Tatenda, whom he had given his Toyota Fun Cargo on November 17 to use as a taxi, had disappeared with it,” said Ms Chiwanza.

After investigations by Detective Constable Manyonga, it emerged that Mutemberi had entered into a written agreement with Tatenda on November 10 at Nyanyadzi Bussiness Centre for the latter to use the car.

Following further probing, police established that the false report was made after a diamond deal involving the car went wrong between him, Norman Hanyana and Tatenda.

He was immediately arrested.
