The Chipinge District Development Fund, in partnership with China Aid, is targeting to drill over 50 boreholes in the district.

So far the programme has successfully drilled 24 boreholes, with the target being disadvantaged communities in rural and peri-urban areas.

Chipinge DDF officer, Mr Isaac Sundawo confirmed the development and said they are in the process of surveying more areas for the drilling of boreholes.

“So far we have identified 54 borehole sites which will be drilled under this water and sanitation programme.

“The programme is being implemented by China Aid with assistance from DDF.

“It is expected to be completed before the end of the year and we are progressing well.

“China Aid has brought state-of-the-art equipment, which has made work easier for us,” he said.

Mr Sundawo said they also want to rehabilitate dry boreholes.

Most of the communities benefiting from the programme used to face acute water shortages due to their geographical location.
