A CONSORTIUM of churches operating under the Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations (ZHOCD) banner has embraced devolution, with congregants from various churches actively participating in different programmes.
ZHOCD threw its full weight behind devolution as its members from previously marginalised communities in different districts across the province are now reaping the benefits of numerous projects.
Speaking during a provincial review meeting held at United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe (UCCZ) in Maunganidze, Chipinge last week on Friday, ZCC Manicaland project coordinator, Mr Reginald Ngwenya said churches are complimenting Government’s efforts that have improved the lives of villagers.
“As churches, we have joined hands to participate in devolution projects. Our membership is greatly benefiting from the several Government-initiated programmes. We are also contributing to the implementation of various initiatives in the communities as we are being consulted on which projects to carry out and we have seen a marked improvement in service delivery, increased accountability and transparency with funds disbursed by Government,” said Mr Ngwenya.
He added that more women are also involved in decision making processes in the communities.
Another church denomination representative, Reverend Maxwell Chizumba echoed similar sentiments, saying it is important to have important Government programmes such as devolution effectively articulated and cascade down to the grassroots.
Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development representative, Mr Kudzai Chiripashi urged church members to take advantage of the programmes rolled out by Government aimed at improving their standards of life.
