MUSIC runs in the Machaka family of Chipinge.

While most parents, especially mothers, do not want their children to venture into music, it is a different story for the Machaka family.

Their mother, Winmore Raisi (59), saw her sons, Chomunorwa (33) and Princewell Machaka (35)’s talent and decided to nurture it.

This has resulted in the siblings opening their own studio at their family house in Chipinge.

Raisi offered her sons the room that they have converted into a studio.

She also bought some of the studio’s equipment, including speakers and microphones.Despite being haunted by lack of exposure, the siblings are determined to make it in the cut-throat music industry.

“Our dream was supported and encouraged by our mother who bought us some of the studio equipment. She offered us one room and we converted it into a studio room,” said Princewell, also known as Prilo in music circles.

Chamunorwa, also known as Chomnax chronicled his journey in the music industry.

He said he began his music carrier in 2007 when he recorded two singles, ‘Wakatora Moyo Wangu’ and ‘Mwanasikana’, among others.

However, he could not proceed with his music career due to financial constraints.

Chomnax did not lose heart and bounced back in 2013.

He has a hit single, ‘Chindau’ which features Legendary, real name, Lloyd Sithole.

He also did the song ‘Special To Me’ with Legendary.

The artiste plans to release the song ‘Kamusikana Kebuwe Keguka’.

As producers, the two brothers recorded the hit song ‘Mambwekwa Hitmaker’ by Born T (Bornwell Tasa).

This song topped the charts on Diamond FM for an entire month. It was among the top five songs for the Year 2023 on the Diamond FM chats.

Chomnax also produced Caff, real name, Lionel Matanda’s ‘DK Fashions’ song.

Caff rose to prominence with his hit song, ‘Perfect To Me’.

“Recording and producing artistes who have made it to the top shows that we are destined for greater heights. We have the talent, but we lack exposure,” said Chomnax.

But despite the lack of exposure, the Machaka siblings have produced music for artistes from as far as Ngaoni, Mutikwanda, Rusitu, Jopa and other places.

“We have produced more than 100 songs since we began, and we are hoping to identify all artistes in Chipinge and other places to boost their talent.

“We need visibility and opportunities to be aired on radio stations. We are also grappling with financial challenges, scarcity of studio gadgets, cameras, lights, drones and good computers,” said Prilo.

He added: “Despite all the challenges, the most interesting thing is that our mother is also a gospel musician. She has single tracks ‘Gudzamutungwe Rapedza Nyika’ as well as ‘Mwakanaka Mwari Wemasimba’. Other songs are yet to be produced.”

The duo’s father, Winmore Raisi said: “I am very happy that my sons opened a studio here in Chipinge. I was born a singer, but I had no platform to showcase my talent. I will be releasing an album with six gospel tracks soon.

“It seems my talent has also spread to my grandsons, Devine Machaka (seven) and Panashe Machaka (six) who are now artistes in their own right. We are a family of musicians.”
