BARING Primary School head Mr Wilberforce Nyambi this week hailed the professionalism of teachers and support from parents which has seen the school emerging second nationally in the 2019 Zimsec Grade Seven exams.

Grade 7 results were released a two weeks ago and Baring had 37 candidates with five units.

The school is enjoying its place in the sun.

Mr Nyambi joined the school in September following his transfer from Murahwa Primary School.

“Everyone from the teaching and non- teaching staff is elated with the Grade 7 results. I attribute the success to their professionalism and unwavering support from the parents.

“I joined Baring Primary School in September when the students were preparing for the exams. I received overwhelming support from both the teachers and parents. The parents and teachers showed great confidence in me while I discerned potential in the candidates. “Our slogan is: Baring is the best, Baring will remain the best. The teachers worked extra hard to produce these good results. I also salute my predecessor, Mr Edward Mudede, who left the school intact,” he said.

The school has an enrolment of 1 805 and 44 teachers.

It had five Grade 7 classes.

The top class had 29 students with five units, the second best had six students with five units while third had two students with five units.

The Grade 7 teachers for the five classes were Mr Christopher Todhlana, Mrs Alice Mandimutsira, Mrs Gertrude Kachambgwa, Mr Crispen Sigauke and Mr Fordy Mharapara. They attributed their success to teamwork and hard work.

“We worked as a team.  In 2018 we had 19 students with five units and we worked an extra mile by giving the candidates extra reading material and work. Parents also played an important role,” said Mrs Mandimutsira.

“I joined Baring in 2016 from Zamba Primary School. I have been a Grade 7 teacher since 1992. When I came here, I made sure that the students’ attitude towards education is positive. We also involved the parents. We called for meetings with the parents so that we get to know each other and work as a team. This has yielded results. We also encouraged our students to form study groups,” said Mr Todhlana.

Baring Primary School is not only good in academics.

The school has done very equally well in sporting activities.

Mondays and Wednesdays they do various sporting activities.

According to the sports master Mr James Makaya the school is doing well in various sporting disciplines.

“Our cricket team did very well and scooped the top accolades in the province. Our choral team has been representing the province at the national finals and came fourth this year in Masvingo.

“We treat sports as important as the academics. The quiz team scooped a bronze medal in October at the national finals,” he said.

The school has also embarked on a number of projects like the planting of over 1 000 trees of bananas and a sizeable pawpaw plantation. The project, which started in 2017, is generating income for the school.

The school is also into small livestock.

They have 30 sheep and over 50 indigenous chickens.
