THE Zimbabwe Cricket board, which recently announced the establishment of a three-member national women’s selection panel, says it is currently engaging relevant stakeholders on safe resumption of the game in the country.

During a meeting held online due to the need to observe physical distancing in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the board was apprised of ZC’s business continuity plans during and after the national lockdown.

In his response to questions from Post Sport, ZC spokesperson Darlington Majonga said, “We are still engaging with the relevant stakeholders on our business continuity plans during and after the lockdown. We will keep you posted on the developments.”

However, in a media statement released this week, ZC said the board discussed the guidelines for the safe resumption of cricket published by the International Cricket Council to assist its members in restarting cricket activity in their respective countries as government restrictions owing to Covid-19 start to relax.

“This is one of the resolutions passed during the board’s first virtual meeting held on Sunday. Former Zimbabwe international cricket players, Julia Chibhabha, Thando Mlilo and Emily Njinjika will make up the national women’s selection panel.

“Chibhabha, the first captain of the Zimbabwe national women’s cricket team, will be the convenor. The board has also approved the payment of an allowance to cushion non-contracted women players of national interest,” reads part of the statement.
